Unit 6.2A Assignment

On the class wiki site, post your favorite new Web 2.0 tool that has not been covered in detail in this class that you have discovered in this course or elsewhere. List the URL, what the tool is, and why you find it useful using the wiki template page. No duplication allowed-each page must be an original new tool. This can be done after reviewing the Unit 9 material, which covers more Web 2.0 resources.

Description of Site:

Pinterest is a free social bookmarking website. I discovered this website last year and have been addicted ever since. There are no ads on this website. There is a place that you can easily click on to see all educational topics for teachers to utilize. It does allow for collaboration because you can follow others and even send them pins you would like to share with one another. I have found so many amazing sites and resources to utilize in my classroom through this website. I like that I can search any topic and find worksheets, videos, and interactive materials all by using this one site. Pinterest allows users to create and title boards to keep resources more organized. Anything I think would be useful can be "pinned" to various pages that I have created. If I were to have my students follow me on Pinterest in order to be able to access materials I have discovered I could also make personal boards hidden so these could only be viewed by me not those following me. There are so many creative ideas on this site! Sharing ideas with other educators is always helpful, this site allows me to do this on an even greater scale.

Educational Uses of Site

One way that I use Pinterest in my classroom is to find activities that can be done for different topics we are covering in class. I find many interactive websites to use on my Promethean board, project ideas, and classroom management ideas as well. I have also used this to get fundraiser ideas for my school. One way that students would be able to use this is for research and to access information that I have posted to specified boards. Students would easily be able to type in any topic and find different websites that would be able to easily provided the information need to complete projects. I could also set up specific boards that could be viewed by my students to follow with sites that would be useful for various assignments given.

Review of Site

Pinterest is one of my favorite websites. I use it on my computer as well as having the application on my phone. It is extremely easy to use! I also love that it is so visual. every pin has an attached picture. One feature that I think is great ,especially if an educator is going to allow students to follow them, is the secret boards. These are boards that only the user who created them can see. This way followers can only view the content you allow them too. The ability to create boards in general is a a nice feature. When I want to go back and look for something I have pinned for school I just return to my "School" board and all of my educational content is there. I can quickly access my organized information which saves me valuable time. It is a great way to share ideas with others and learn from the amazing things that other educators are doing and want to share.
